Problem: Performance Contribution is widely used to evaluate the contribution of an asset class’s return to the total return of a portfolio. It is an absolute analysis, while Attribution, on the other side, shows relative weighting and relative returns.

Think about this question. In a single period, the performance of an asset class is positive, but its performance contribution to the whole portfolio is negative. How could it happen?
